Sometimes, when people hear the statistics surrounding domestic violence and grasp just how deeply it reaches into every area of our society, they feel helpless.
You shouldn't. Human beings perpetrate domestic violence, and human beings can stop it. What it takes is a village of people willing to stand in the gap, raising awareness, providing the needed skills and knowledge, and ensuring that lack of money will never stop the abused from retrieving their lives again.
Here are just some of the ways you can help:
Provide legal expertise
In every community, abused women and men are stopped cold in their efforts to protect themselves and their children by their lack of access to an affordable attorney. Eagle's Wings goal is to create a network of 1,000 attorneys across the United States who are willing to provide a few hours each month of pro bono services to victims of domestic violence. The abused need:- To understand local domestic abuse laws
- To know what to expect in court
- How to increase their chances of being successful
- To be represented by a qualified attorney
Provide administrative assistance
Are you a virtual assistant? Or are you someone with administrative skills who is local to the Inland Empire in Southern California? Eagle's Wings is anxious to reach more churches, schools, and families dealing with domestic abuse issues, but we are limited by our need for more staff who can take over administrative duties. If you feel led to volunteer a few hours each month in this area, please know that you would be a true Godsend to this ministry's work.
